Membership at Grace

Belong. Commit. Serve. Together.

What Does Membership Mean?

Membership at Grace Community Church is a way to publicly express your commitment to Grace and to say, “This is my church home. I’m committed to supporting, serving, and actively participating in this church community.”

Membership also gives you a voice in the life and leadership of our church. Members have the opportunity to vote on and affirm candidates for our Board of Directors and to vote on and affirm Elder candidates for our Elder Team. Membership is also a requirement for our church under Ontario’s Not-for-Profit Corporations Act.

What Can Members Expect?

As a member of Grace, you will have opportunities throughout the year to hear from and provide feedback to our church leadership. There is a minimum requirement of 1 Annual General Meeting every year.

Annual General Meeting: Each spring, members are invited to our Annual General Meeting (AGM). At the AGM, we review the financial performance of the church, hear updates on how our ministries are doing, and vote to affirm or re-affirm members of our Board of Directors.

Membership is more than simply having your name on a list- it’s a commitment to belong, participate, serve, and help shape the future of our church together.

Steps to Becoming a Member:

Step 1: Attend an Explore Grace Course. You can register here for our upcoming course. This course is designed to give you a clear picture of who we are. This is a relaxed, informal setting where you’ll learn about our story, our values, and what it looks like to be part of the Grace family. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with others who are exploring the same questions and to ask anything you’ve been wondering about.

Step 2: Complete the Membership Application Form which includes your own spiritual story, church history, baptism history, communion participation, and what your abilities and spiritual gifts are. It also requires that you have read and accept Grace’s Statement of Faith and Position Statements.

Step 3: Complete an interview with one of our church elders. During this phase a church elder will interview you as a candidate for membership. Any concerns or unusual circumstances affecting membership at this time will be discussed. The church elder and prospective member determine together whether or not membership is appropriate at this time.

Step 4: Once approved by the church elder, the Board of Directors will vote to affirm you as an official member into the Grace Community Church Membership. You will be welcomed and introduced by the Board of Directors to the broader membership group through email.
